Traditionally, Maasai girls are not encouraged to learn how to read, write, or count money. They are expected to learn how to care for the village needs, make clothing, care for animals, care for children and homes. These needs in the village are not bad, but the inability to read, write and count money often creates a poverty culture in Maasai villages. Girls are subject to scams and often do not understand the value of their resources. The simple task of learning to read and write and count money will transform villages and strengthen their family units. Blessing Hands is excited to partner with a group focused on building up girls and ensure they have basic education, and an opportunity continue education into college/university if they so choose. Hope for education and possibility of learning agricultural practices, husbandry, etc... will allow girls to return to their villages and improve life for everyone. There is power in knowledge and education.
